Since today will provide an offering of home decor, DIY project, and cooking - I might as well put a Martha Stewart spin on it. This is the painted chandelier I mentioned (a couple of posts ago) that I picked up at an antique/gift shop.
It originally hung from chains, the other direction, and the light sockets were turned the other way (ok, how many of you are trying to look at the screen upside down, to see what I mean?). It had been totally covered in flat white paint. I wanted to stand it on its top, turn the light sockets around, and use it as a tabletop candelabra. It was also discovered that some of the pieces of the stem were painted glass - so they were striped. Waa-Laa! Here is the finished project. I think I am going to put clear hobnail style votive cups in the light sockets . Not bad for a $20 purchase.
Now, onto the cooking portion of the blog...............yipee!
I got an email yesterday with this recipe: Minute Chocolate Mug Cake. OK. The words chocolate AND cake are in the title. You have my attention. But, the word minute was the cincher! I felt obligated to test this "it really cant be this easy, can it?" recipe. Here is the recipe, with commentary to follow.
Minute Chocolate Mug Cake
1 Coffee Mug (mine pictured here is a large 16 oz mug)
4 TBS flour
4 TBS sugar
2 TBS cocoa powder
1 egg
3 TBS milk
3 TBS oil
splash of vanilla
pinch of salt
3 TBS chocolate chips (optional)
Add dry ingredients to mug and mix well. Add egg and mix thoroughly. Pour in milk and oil mixing well. Add chocolate chips, vanilla, and salt. Mix well again. Put mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts (a.k.a. full power level). The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but dont be alarmed. Allow to cool slightly, then tip out onto plate - eat! This can serve two, if you want to share (I almost left that sentence out).
Here is what it looks like when done. When the recipe mentions the cake rising, YES it does. But it rises straight up, not down over the sides. Like a very tall souffle. Leave it alone, it will settle at the end of cooking, with a result like the picture. This would be great fun for kids!!!
Here is the photo of the cake turned out onto a salad plate and cut. The cake is only slightly rubbery, but not enough to deter me. The cake isnt overly sweet, so the choc chips make up nicely for that. A couple stuck in the bottom of the mug, but I just spooned them out onto the cake. I would make this again for sure! It would be great split warm and a dollop of whipped cream or spoonful of ice cream. Yes, I would share this.
So what do you have to lose? Try this and let me know what you think. I will practice more this Fall, and get some spice or gingerbread flavors.
More tomorrow

Love it! The votives will be a nice touch. Imagine it as the centerpiece...a quiet dinner for two...I guess that would work, if it is not too tall. Very nice job.
Cake, looks delish and I want to try it. I will try to print it from here, if not you will have to email it to me.
Just wanted you to know that I tried the cake recipe...just now...and it was delicious. I didn't have to substitute Jiffy Baking mix for flour..b/c I'm lame and keep forgetting to buy more...it rose about 2 1/2 inches above the cup, but never spilled. Tripp and I watched it and thought it was pretty neat. We split it and put chocolate frosting on it and it was ALL good.
Oh crap...I meant that I did substitute Jiffy mix for flour....we todd it. SGH.
Oh they are great for kids!! We did this one year for the kids, only using brownies and making a brownie sunday. They were AWESOME!! YUM!!
