By a show of hands, how many of you think this could very well have been a scene from our yard?
From the daily antics around here, you might think so - but, no. It was only about six miles away, in "the county". I got a phone call yesterday about a herd of escaped buffalo being driven back home, and where to go with my camera. For locals that read this, these pictures were taken at the back of a housing addition on Linnville Road in Heath. HEY!-it was in someone's backyard. Ya gotta click on these to see them bigger - how incredibly awesome is this!. I ended taking about 200 pictures. We were SO lucky to be able to witness this - Steve and I were in a neighbor group of about 6 people - it wasnt widely known.
See the largest buffalo (second in from the left)? He was HUGE!!! He was the bull of the group, I guess. He was about the size of the Jeep.

There was a team of guys on 4-wheelers and a Jeep who herded them. Apparently, buffalo can be skittish (which is why they escaped to begin with - a coyote got in and was bothering the calves). The team was relatively quiet - no clapping or yelling. You would see this guy just softly raise his hands, as if to shoo them.
SO.........sometime soon, I am certain I will have a picture to show you that will include our Mystery Critter.
Stay tuned...
p.s. more details are listed in the Comments sections.

I will definitely stay tuned! What kind of a trap is that? I think I've seen those buffalo before. Totally awesome! Were they out of the fence? I've heard that buffalo can be really mean animals if you get too close.
The buffalo escaped from their nice farm-having been spooked by coyotes after the calves-and were spotted by a motorist "as buffalo in the road" at 2am. I would like to have been the dispatcher that got that call...lol. This herd was wrangled back down roads, through yards, and over hills to get back home. There were 11 of them. This all happened in the area of Linnville Rd., Blue Jay Rd., and Cotterman Rd.
The Deputy standing with us, spoke of how dangerous they could be. They will charge and kill you. That's why the team was SO non-rushing them to move them through a fence that had to be opened for them.
We were standing in an open yard about 150 feet from them. No fence between us!
I made/left a CD copy of the photos I took, back to the farm where they live, but no one was home - so I couldnt get any of my own questions answered.
The trap is a LIVE trap, that is big enough for "cat-sized" animals - but I dont think we will be catching a cat...
