He never even saw it coming!

Steve's SURPRISE retirement party! I love it when a surprise gets pulled off!

Actually, it was more of an intimate dinner with close friends and family, to reminisce and celebrate this milestone for Steve. I had it at McCormick and Schmicks in Columbus. The stained glass here is inside the front door - how appropriate.
This is how Steve was the whole evening. He laughed and laughed - which is SO infectious! He makes everyone else happier just by being around. (just one of the reasons I fell in love with him). I had one of his friends draw a cartoon from a scene in the movie Platoon. I have never seen the movie, (but as described many times) there is a character named King, hanging out of a lifting helicopter, screaming "Goodbye, mutha f..." The cartoon was amended, too, but Steve has been saying this phrase daily, since he signed his papers. He also got a cool gift of a Wii gaming system. It has a bunch of sports he can play - even golf, on a rainy day! When guests arrived, there were hors d'oeuvres and drinks, and then we sat down to dinner. If you ever get the chance to eat there, the food is delish! And then on Sunday, we headed down to Athens to catch the season opener for Ohio University. The guy in the black suit, in the center of the picture, is Jim Groce, Head Coach. He used to be Asst coach at Ohio State. They won soundly! After the game, we grabbed dinner with friends.
I couldnt keep my eyes open during the car ride home. We were both exhausted - the clock said 8:55pm when I got in bed! I slept 10 straight hours! All this basketball and keeping secrets wore me out.
